Deck the Halls, the Holly and the Ivy Medley for Flute (or Violin) and Harp

Here’s a video to help you get in the Christmas spirit, and maybe inspire you to perform this lively arrangement. It’s so fun to play, and can easily be modified for lever harp. It’s also possible to play this on the piano.

Deck the Halls opens this medley, then flows into a haunting carol that goes by the title of the Holly and the Ivy, though not the familiar tune. After two verses, we introduce the familiar Holly and Ivy melody, first on flute, then harp gets a gentle solo before transforming “Holly” into a joyful and sparkling 6/8 Celtic dance tune.

I’m working on the teaching video for this, where I’ll share how to make the very few alterations for lever harp, and suggest some best practices for fingering and interpretation.

This arrangement is from our (RoseWynde: Sandy Norman, flute) CD “A Merry Little Christmas”, and is in a collection published by Alry. Here’s a link to a description of that collection. A Merry Christmas Collection
